HOW TO GET READY FOR YOUR TATTOO APPOINTMENT?
Getting a new tattoo is always exciting, whether your first or your hundredth. Even if you're a professional tattoo collector, we have completed a guide on preparing for the fun!
SLEEP WELL
Lack of sleep will make your body more sensitive to pain. Also, yawning and stretching will trouble your artist; therefore, they will be distracted while trying to focus on your art piece. Take the extra time and get that good night's sleep; you will thank yourself for it during your session.
STAY HYDRATED
Hydrated skin takes ink much better than dehydrated skin, making the entire process much smoother for your artist. However, drinking too much water at the last minute won't work; you should start hydrating your body at least 24 hours before.
EXFOLIATE YOUR SKIN
The outer layer of your skin is primarily dead skin cells, which means an obstacle for needle magic. Rubbing the skin with a coarse bath glove will condition the skin for the best result. The critical point is completing this task 24 hours before your appointment.
KEEP YOUR SKIN MOISTURIZED
Moisturizing will help to keep your skin hydrated and healthy, but please don't moisturize your skin on the day of your appointment. Also, remember that you generally want to avoid products with alcohol as they will dry your skin.
EAT WELL
Showing up to your appointment starving is not good for you. Especially if you're going to have a long session, your blood sugar level will drop dramatically, and you might run the risk of passing out from exhaustion.
DRESS FOR THE SESSION
Allow your artist easy access to the area you are getting tattooed. Wearing skinny jeans won't help you or your artist if you're going to get your lower leg tattooed. Also, you want to be as comfortable as possible during your tattoo, which means wearing loose clothes is better for you.
DO NOT CONSUME ALCOHOL
It is extremely dangerous to drink alcohol before your appointment as it thins your blood and puts you in danger of various complications. You'd better stay away from alcohol or drugs 24 hours before your appointment.
AVOID SUNBURN
Not only would it make getting the tattoo even more painful, but it could also prevent it from healing properly. Applying sunscreen in the weeks leading up to your tattoo is a good approach.
AVOID TAKING ASPIRIN
Aspirin is a blood thinner, so being on aspirin will make your tattoo bleed more.
DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING
Once you are in the procedure area, you should be careful where you reach with your hands. Remember that you are in a controlled environment, and everything is sterilized before your appointment. The last thing you want to do is infect your tattoo by touching the open wound or your artist's workstation and contaminating their equipment.
